The cat sat still upon the hill... overlooking a small village in the valley below.
The only movement was the slow lifting and falling of the very tip of its long, sleek tail.
It appeared to be deep in thought... as if contemplating - or perhaps plotting - something unusual... and perhaps serious... something known only to itself.
The cat's sleek coat was mostly grey... with white on its belly, around its neck, and up the back of its head... ending in two round white patches above the eyes.
The rest of its face was black... and its tail was also black.
And the cat was always alone.
The cat sat still upon the hill... exactly as it had done for the past seven days.
It was near Halloween... and the soft glow of holiday lights... lit up the village from end to end.
The cat had walked through the village earlier... and knew exactly what was down there... pumpkins and skeletons... and many other things... but none of them were real.
Humans, of course, had done this again... as they did every year on Halloween... just one of many silly things that humans do.
And which cats do not understand.
The cat sat still upon the hill... and pondered the things it had seen..
Images of cats... among the fake things... but all BLACK cats... wearing pointed witch hats... and capes of orange and green.
Did these humans not know that cats came in different colours... and many had more than one colour...creating soft coats with beautiful, unique patterns?
But cats have no need... of tall hats or capes... or costumes for Halloween... because cats are beautiful just as they are... and each is unique to itsself.
And the cat on the hill did not like what it saw.
The cat sat still upon the hill... and gazed at the village below.
Many thoughts went through its head... while every now and then... its tail curled ever so slightly.
Long, sharp claws extended and retracted... as they dug deep into the grass-covered earth.
Whiskers twitched in anticipation... for the cat, too... was preparing for a night of fun.
But it would wait... until late in the night... when all the human madness was over... and the village was quietly dark once more.
For the cat on the hill had a purpose now... a self-appointed task... which it was determined to do.
When the time was right... it would execute its plan without fail... and without remorse.
So the cat sat still and waited until the time was right.
