Black Point

In reality, it is nothing more than a strip of black rock... not even a trace of green moss grows out there... and the ruins of Black's castle look blacker than ever...abandoned and lonely.

High waves, driven by hurricane force winds, have washed over Black's Point many times since the destruction that was blamed for his disappearance.
It's said that parts of the stone structure have begun to crumble from the wear and tear of the elements.
But how do they know that? Or are they guessing, because of the passage of time. It's highly unlikely that anyone has actually been out there since Black's death.

Some erosion can be seen out there now... the top of the tallest spire is missing... the one Black jumped - or fell - from on the night of the storm... or so the Legend says.
And how do they know that? Reports say no body was found... there was no memorial... and there is no grave marker for him.
It seems kind of sad, somehow, that a person should be forgotten like that.

At night clouds of bats are often seen flying around the crumbling spires.... and one gets an eerie feeling that perhaps they have claimed the place as their own.
Sometimes it feels like the place is alive... just watching... and waiting...

Legend says that if you see a light out there, it means that Black has returned... and if he sees you watching, he will come for you.
And yes... some claim that Black's spirit still walks that balcony... particularly on dark stormy nights... when the wind makes a mournful howling sound... as it blows through the ruins.

For some strange reason, it always appears dark out there... even on sunny days... almost as if there's an air of perpetual gloom over the place.
No living person has been seen out there... either coming or going... no lights have been seen out there... since the night of that dreadful storm.

The oldest person in town... known as Grandfather Abraham... says no one has lived out there in his lifetime... and he just turned 107.

Yet, the place has always held a kind of fascination for everyone.
It stands there like a silent sentinel... maybe watching over the sea and those who sail upon it.
But... does it watch over the land as well... and those here on the land? Is it waiting for Black's ghost to return, as some have suggested.?

Although... there are those who say that he could still be out there... somewhere among the ruins.
Or... did I forget to mention the rumours that Black was a vampire?

I must admit, there were signs to initiate such rumours...
It was well known that he was a true night person... that everything he did was under cover of darkness.
And it wasn't the same as those people who stay up until the wee hours of the morning... working on whatever it is they do.
Black never seemed to do the things that - normal - people do.

The "vampire" story was probably based on the fact that he was never seen in daylight, except on dark days... when it was cloudy, overcast, or raining.
He was never seen in a grocery store... around here... but maybe he lived on nuts and seeds... health foods that he couldn't get locally.
It was rumoured that he was once overheard saying that he was on a liquid diet... but no one knows if that was true... or just another rumour.

And that... is a very unsettling thought...

A ruined Gothic castle rises from a narrow, rocky peninsula, surrounded by crashing ocean waves and thick fog beneath a stormy sky.
