Sunday afternoon
Caster: [To self.] Dear me, I really must get this forecast done. [Calling] Harry, I’m doing the Five Day Forecast for the Johnson Creek area. How are you doing for water?
Harry: Oh, I’ve got a lot of water, 82 billion litres.
Caster: 82 billion litres? That is a lot of water. Can you store it in the fridge for a few days? I was hoping to give them some sun. After last week’s storms I think I really do owe it to them. It’s quite a nice area, really. Pretty little farms, rolling meadows….
Harry: No, the water is already out and sitting around here. The fridge is full of frogs.
Caster: Frogs! What do you want with frogs? Hey! You’re not going to do a frog drop on Johnson Creek!
Harry: No, no. Not on Johnson Creek. It’s for Meyerthorpe.
Caster: Meyerthorpe? Oh, well. Go ahead then.
So you’ve got 82 billion litres of water for Johnson Creek. Can you hold onto it for a few days? I really was trying to get them some sun. They had such a time last week.
Harry: As I said, it’s out of the refrigerator now. It’s only going to spoil. You can have fresh rain now or we can send them rotten water at the end of the week.
Caster: Yes, yes, of course. We’ll take the fresh rain now. [To self.] I never send down the rotten stuff. Although some of the other Forecasters…. But 82 billion litres. That’s a lot of rain for three days. Well, so be it. Hard rain for three days and then I can finally give Johnson Creek some sun. Oh, it was so stormy there last week.
Hey, Harry.
Harry: Yeah?
Caster: Why can’t you freeze some of this water? Then next week we can send it down as snow on Meyerthorpe. At their elevation it’s not too late in the season for that and then I can give Johnson Creek some sun tomorrow.
Harry: What’s that?
Caster: Can you freeze the water you’ve got lying about?
Harry: No, the ice boxes haven’t been defrosted in ages. They’re completely iced up. We’ve scheduled defrosting over the next few days.
Caster: So that’s that. [Writes in his notebook.] Rain for Johnson Creek, heavy at times.
Harry, do you know where Juno is?
Harry: Search me.
***
Caster: [To self.] There he is.
Juno, I’m working on the Five Day Forecast for Johnson Creek. After all that blustery weather last week I’m hoping we can keep it calm down there.
Juno: Uh, hi Caster. I know, I know. Them big blowers was all out of whack last week.
You saw us workin’. We couldn’t get them damn things shut off. It must of been pretty windy there.
Caster: It was very windy.
Juno: You’ll be happy ter know your precious little Johnson Creek will be spared any high winds this week. All them big blowers are currently dismantled. The repair crews are on ’em now. You won’t get any strong winds for at least a week. The only things we’ve got online now are some small fans. Light breezes only.
Caster: Yes, yes, that’s quite alright. Fine, fine. I can promise calm, sunny weather for Johnson Creek for Thursday and Friday.
Juno: Calm all week.
Caster: Right. Calm all week. They really do need a rest from the rough weather. Now I’ve got to see Hercules about temperatures and then I can get going. Oh, Juno.
Juno: Yeah?
